How Many Handshakes?

1. There were 45 handshakes.

2. There will be a total of 55 handshakes.

3. The total would be 190

The pattern is that if you have 10 students, you add 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2,  1. This is because if you think about it in the terms of one student shaking everyone's hand each time, that student eliminates themselves from the pool of students who still need to shake each others' hands.

#16 Perseverance

The most pressing goal I have is that I wish to be a private investigator after high school. In order to accomplish this, I must first gain 2 years of investigative hours. I would like to attend a community college while I intern with a private investigator in order to both gain my hours and increase my intelligence.
As far as colleges go, i would like to attend Goldenwest due to the fact that they have beginner investigation and law classes that would go a long way towards increasing my investigative skills. After semester or two, I would ideally move to Santa Monica or Santa Barbara and transfer to a college in one of those areas.
With any luck, I would find another investigator to intern with. Then, I would complete college and gain my investigative license. After gaining my license, my dream is to work at an embassy as a private investigator.

Bucket List

1. Sail a Moth- I have sailed all my life. To have the ability to sail such a unique boat would be my honor.

2. Learn how to play the keyboard- It's been my dream to learn the keyboard ever since I was young. However, time and money constraints have halted me from following this field.

3.  Go hiking on Half-Dome- My family  has been hiking there for ages, it's almost a coming of age  tradition for us to go on a hiking trip there

4. Travel to France- I learned french as my 2nd language, and ever since then it's been a dream of mine to go there. Their culture is just so interesting and nuanced.

5. See the Grateful Dead in concert- Being one of my favorite bands, of course I would want to go see the Grateful Dead live.

My top three Movies

My top three Movies

1. The Big Lebowski

http://orig01.deviantart.net/1277/f/2015/280/f/0/the_big_lebowski_poster__by_leonrock84-d9c93jl.jpg

This is easily my favorite movie of all time. It's a surreal dry comedy about a hippie, the "dude", who finds himself entrenched in matters above himself after he is confused for a rich Lebowski. It's great for anyone that enjoys satire and dry humor.

2. Ferris Bueller's Day off
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/9/9b/Ferris_Bueller's_Day_Off.jpg

An American classic, Ferris Bueller never fails to make me laugh when I watch it. It always leaves me with a sense of freedom despite all the restrictions society has placed on me. Every single one of us needs a "day off" every now and then.

3. Caddyshack
https://caddyshack1.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/Caddyshack-Movie-Review-7.jpg

And yet another classic, Caddyshack is delightfully funny, with stars such as Rodney Dangerfield and Chevy Chase. War breaks loose on the golf course when an eccentric man of wealth comes to visit. I would recommend this movie to anyone with common sense.

Being Charitable

The Academy of American poets is a New York charity with the goal of promoting poets and their work through both financial and educational aid. Founded in 1934 as a nonprofit organization by Marie Bullock, who was worried about the state of affairs concerning poets in America. The academy was the first to introduce a cash prize for poetry in the United States. Currently, they have more than 8,000 individual members/contributors.
http://41.media.tumblr.com/843c4ba1a2096c175cb474d23828937d/tumblr_myqo4dx9e81rvesteo1_1280.jpg    Poetry is dying in America. Most may not actually care due to the lack of interest in it, although that is precisely why it's death is so quickly approaching. The problem is, poets aren't the only ones who can produce poetry. Writers, directors, actors, playwrights, musicians; they all are capable of producing poetry in their field of art. But they too are losing their poetic skill. Popular music is now Wiz Khalifa and Mumford and Sons. The time of Jim Morrison and Neil Young is over. Popular movies are Avengers and Minions. Kubrick and Herzog have fallen into nonrecognition by the general public. Popular books are Fifty Shades of Gray and The Hunger Games. Where have Steinbeck and Faulkner gone? They left with the poetry.
Life is harder than ever for poets in the modern world. And the reason is quite simply, how can you make money off of the least popular art? A successful movie, book, or play can make millions. When is the last time you've heard of a poet on the news? Or, even read a poem from a recent, well known poet? This is the sad reality that faces those wishing to go down that particular path of art. Poetry is the only form of art that one can't make millions off of in 2016. This is precisely why a charity that funds them is so important.

My Favorite Hobby

Body surfing is deceptively simple. If  you don't know what this is due to the fact that your parents made the decision to live somewhere without waves, you have my dearest condolences. If, however, you are of the above-mentioned group of people, and you yourself made a decision to live away from the beach, then I advise you stop reading; There's nothing here for you that you didn't already give up- and even if you were to make the decision now, it'd probably be some kind of cliche one in your situation. But I digress; I love body surfing because it's easy to learn and hard to master. Anyone can just jump in the waves and have a nice time. But if you get out there often enough, you'll find yourself gliding in the waves in a way that you'll be desperate to replicate once you realize it wasn't an accident. Not to mention that hobbies involving the ocean already sit above most others. The ability to hop into the waves any time and just have fun is something that shouldn't be taken for granted.

About Me

My name is Hunter Corwin. I was born at Hoag Hospital, and have lived in the same house on Balboa Island for the majority of my life, and for the entirety of my memories. I used to own a dog named junebug, and still have a cat that's older than I am. When it comes to family, I live with my brother and occasionally see my grandparents when they visit. I went to elementary school at Lincoln, middle and high school at CDM, and am finishing off my senior year at Back Bay High School.

As far as interests go, I have a few. I adore the beach and all it's many ways, both perfect and otherwise. I read as often as I can, which is to say, not as often as I might like to. I don't have any single kind of book that I prefer over the other, although I have been partial to nonfiction recently. When I was young, my favorite past time was sailing. Although I still do enjoy it, I have a hard time finding the time to. Additionally, cooking is one of my favorite activities. I particularly enjoy learning new recipes and cooking for others.

Despite the fact that my entire life consists 17 years, 17 is still considered young and small in comparison to those who have lived much longer. I do not know why having another year on me is such a huge difference, but I digress. As a young boy, I sailed every single summer for BIYC. The rest of the year, I played soccer and baseball. However, once I had begun to play waterpolo in 7th grade, I fell ill, spending the next year in and out of the hospital. After recovering, I had a hard time getting back into sports, so I focused my energy on schooling and education.
